The Market

“The market” is merely a name for the emergent outcome of myriad individual choices. Other social systems cannot get around the fact that everyone cannot have as much gold as they’d like to have. Someone will decide who gets how much gold, and if it is not the price system, it will be the will of the rulers, whomever they may be.

Self Interest

“How selfish so ever man may be supposed, there are evidently some principles in his nature, which interest him in the fortune of others, and render their happiness necessary to him, though he derives nothing from it, except the pleasure of seeing it.”
– Adam Smith

Sounds about right.

It is amazing that people who think we cannot afford to pay for doctors, hospitals, and medication somehow think that we can afford to pay for doctors, hospitals, medication and a government bureaucracy to administer it. — Thomas Sowell

Introductions…

Hello there,

This is my little corner of the web where I will be posting thoughts and observations on technology, politics, economics, freedom, family, cooking and whatever else strikes my fancy. I’m a systems administrator for a large web hosting firm in Houston Texas. I have 3 great kids, I am highly interested in the aforementioned topics. I don’t expect much traffic here, this is mainly for me, but if something grabs your interest, or you have something to say, by all means, feel free to leave a comment.
